| Spanish abstract | El objetivo de este artículo es el estudio de testimonios artísticos de Caracas, específicamente pictóricos y gráficos y realizados entre 1830 y 1890, como recursos para interpretar una imagen integral del paisaje de la ciudad desde una perspectiva vinculada a las artes plásticas. Para ello partimos de la premisa que las imágenes artísticas son producto y expresión de su época. Se presenta una selección de imágenes que nos revelan gran parte de los cambios experimentados en la estructura urbana y en el paisaje, las cuales son agrupadas según tres "miradas temáticas" que responden, primero, a la posición ideológica del artista frente a su representación de la realidad; y segundo, al punto de vista o distancia desde la cual observa su objetivo |
| English abstract | The aim of this article is the study of artistic testimonies of Caracas, specifically pictorial and graphic ones and done between 1830 y 1890, as interpretational resources of an integral image of the city’s landscape from an artistic perspective. In order to do that, we start from the premise that artistic images are a product and expression of their time. A selection of images that reveal most of the changes in the urban structure and the landscape are presented; the images are grouped under "theme glances" that respond, first, to the artist’s ideological position in front of his representation of reality; and second, to the point of view or the distance from which he looks at its objective |
