| Spanish abstract | Durante el período 1996-2009, el índice de comercio intraindustrial de la Comunidad Andina se ubicó en 24%. Este indicador envuelve dos etapas que permitieron medir el impacto que la denuncia del país petrolero al Acuerdo de Cartagena trajo para el comercio andino. Las maquinarias y equipos de transporte representaron el mayor volumen de intercambio intraindustrial, mientras que la industria de aceites, ceras y grasas presentó el menor nivel de intercambio. El retiro de Venezuela se tradujo en un incremento del comercio intraindustrial sobre la mayoría de las industrias, a excepción de la industria de productos químicos. Adicionalmente, el rol de los costos de transporte y la apreciación de las monedas probaron ser determinantes para el crecimiento del comercio intraindustrial en la Comunidad Andina. De igual manera se determinó que la estructura económica, social y comercial de un país juega un rol fundamental dentro del impulso de este comercio |
| English abstract | Between 1996 and 2009 the index of intra-industry trade of the Andean Community (CAN) was ranked in 24%. This index is composed by two stages. It allowed the measurement of the impact that the withdrew of Venezuela to the Cartagena treaty had to the trade flows of the CAN. The machines and transportation equipment industry presented the largest volume of intraindustry exchange. On the other hand, oils, waxes and fats showed the lowest level of exchange. After Venezuela withdrew from the CAN, all industries except the chemical experienced an increase of intra-industrial trade. In addition, the transportation cost and the appreciation of the currency proved to have a crucial role in the growth of the CAN’s trade. Finally, this study showed that the trade and the socio-economic structure of a country play a key role in intra-industry trade |
