| Spanish abstract | La explotación de sal es una actividad practicada por el hombre desde tiempos prehispánicos en América; el desarrollo de esta actividad contribuyó a la formación de pueblos y rutas comerciales. En el noroccidente de Venezuela, específicamente en el Valle de Quíbor, los datos etnohistóricos y pedológicos, junto a la evidencia arqueológica, sustentan el desarrollo de una industria de sal de tierra. Este trabajo tiene como principal objetivo establecer, en el registro cerámico obtenido de los sitios asociados con esta industria de sal, rasgos tecnológicos y funcionales que permitan identificar un posible uso especializado en la producción de sal de tierra |
| English abstract | Salt exploitation is an ancient human activity in the Americas. The development of this activity contributed to the formation of towns and commercial routes. In Northwestern Venezuela, specifically in the Quíbor Valley, the archaeological, etnohistorical, and pedological records testify to the development of the earth salt industry. Our principal aim in this paper is to describe the technological and functional characteristics of ceramic artifacts that allow us to identify a possible specialized use in the production of earth salt at archaeological sites located in the northern Quíbor Valley |
