| Spanish abstract | El presente artículo pretende mostrar cómo las representaciones sociales y estereotipos sobre las mujeres latinoamericanas, evidentes en páginas de internet de agencias matrimoniales transnacionales, afectan el proceso de construcción de la subjetividad de las usuarias de estos sitios web. Para esto, el texto explora las relaciones entre las representaciones del género, la raza y la “latinoamericaneidad” y la construcción de estereotipos de las mujeres latinas que son ofrecidas como esposas potenciales a hombres estadounidenses. Finalmente, el texto articula estas relaciones con el estudio de caso de una mujer colombiana, usuaria de este medio para encontrar esposo y su incorporación de características estereotípicas |
| English abstract | This article seeks to show how the social representations and stereotypes of Latin-American women, evident in the webpages of transnational marriage agencies, affect the construction of subjectivity of the female users of these sites. For this purpose, the text explores the relationships between gender, race and “Latin-Americanity” representations and the stereotype construction of Latin women offered as potential wives to American men. Finally, it articulates these relations with the case study of a Colombian woman that used the internet to fi nd a husband and her incorporation of stereotypical characteristics |
