| Spanish abstract | Este ensayo se propone (1) esbozar la propuesta metametodológica de Larry Laudan en su libro Beyond Positivism and Relativism, que permitiría la evaluación de metodologías científicas, garantizando por este medio —en opinión del autor— la objetividad y el progreso de las ciencias y (2) desarrollar una crítica puntual a algunas tesis que la propuesta incluye. Se propondrá que estas tesis carecen de justificación, por lo que si no se reformulan o remplazan radicalmente, la objetividad de las ciencias se ve seriamente comprometida, así como, consecuentemente, mantener una idea de progreso científico. Reemplazar una metametodología por otra podría, sin embargo, estar desencaminado, en tanto evade el problema escéptico fundamental de la justificación del conocimiento |
| English abstract | This paper is intended to (1) outline the metamethodological proposal by Larry Laudan in his book Beyond Positivism and Relativism (1996), which would provide a foundation for the evaluation of scientific methodologies, that warrants —according to the author–objectivity in sciences and (2) develop a detailed criticism of two theses from this proposal. I suggest these theses are not justified so that a reformulation or radical change would be needed in order for the objectivity of science to be maintained. However, replacing a metamethodology with another could be misleading, since this eludes the fundamental skeptical problem of the justification of knowledge. I will not conclude the end of philosophy in skepticism; nevertheless, my arguments point towards this very overwhelming direction |
