| Spanish abstract | El ensayo analiza los aspectos materiales y estilísticos del documento pictográfico conocido como Códice de Yanhuitlán, un -manuscrito del siglo XVI procedente del homónimo pueblo de la Mixteca Alta. Se propone que la tumultuosa situación histórico-política que siguió al establecimiento del orden colonial en la región se ve reflejada en la -compleja manufactura del códice, un documento que quedó inacabado y que fue alterado y mutilado varias veces antes de ser definitivamente descompuesto y disperso en el siglo XVIII |
| English abstract | The complex material and stylistic composition of Codex Yanhuitlan, a sixteenth-century pictographic manuscript from the Mixteca Alta, is considered against the backdrop of the equally complex and volatile historical situation that followed the establishment of colonial order in the region. It is argued that the codex is an unfinished document that was from the onset drafted in an unusual manner and deeply reworked before being completely disassembled in the eighteenth century |
