| Spanish abstract | La investigación tuvo como principal objetivo comprender las vivencias de las madres de pacientes con esquizofrenia. En referencia a la metodología, se trató de un estudio enmarcado en un paradigma cualitativo, con un diseño narrativo, proyectado y emergente, que utilizó las historias de vida como principal método. Se utilizó la entrevista en profundidad como técnica de recolección de datos. Se trabajó con tres informantes, madres de pacientes con esquizofrenia, en el contexto del Hospital Militar “Dr. Carlos Arvelo” y la Unidad de Neuropsiquiatría “Jesús Mata de Gregorio”, ubicados en Caracas. Por medio del método de comparación constante, para generar teoría fundamentada en los datos, emergieron las siguientes categorías: 1) lo afectivo, entendido como las emociones y sentimientos que surgen durante los distintos momentos de la enfermedad del hijo; 2) el vínculo, el cual se resignifica en las relaciones cotidianas; 3) el abordaje que realiza la madre en los distintos momentos de la enfermedad; 4) el impacto y el apoyo familiar significado por ella y, finalmente, 5) los significados sobre la enfermedad mental, elaborados a partir del contacto con la esquizofrenia. Las conclusiones más relevantes se agrupan en tres dimensiones: la resignificación del vínculo materno a través de la vivencia afectiva en los diversos momentos de la enfermedad y en su cotidianidad; el abordaje de la enfermedad y su relación con la construcción de significados; finalmente, el involucramiento y el estar pendiente: dos grados de apoyo percibidos para atenuar la carga del hijo esquizofrénico |
| English abstract | The main objective of this study was to understand the experience of the mothers with schizophrenic children. In reference to the methodology, it was a qualitative study, with a narrative, projective and emergent design. It used Life Stories as the central method, and in-depth interviews as a collector data. The research was with three participants, mothers of patients with this mental illness, the interviews were in the Military Hospital “Dr. Carlos Arvelo”, and in the Neuropsychiatric Unit “Jesús Mata de Gregorio”, in Caracas. By the constant comparison method, in arder to generate grounted theory, the following categories emerged: 1) Affectivity, which includes the diverse emotions and feelings that appear in different moments of the experience; 2) The maternal bond, that is redefined through the daily interactions; 3) The approach of the mental illness made by the mother in different moments of her experience; 4) The impact and family support defined by the mother, and lastly; 5) the meaning of the mental illness created from the contact with the schizophrenia. The most relevant conclusions are grouped into three dimensions: first, the reappraisal of the maternal bond through the emotional experience of the mother; second, the approach of the mental illness and its relation with the construction of meaning made by the mother.
