| English abstract | This paper claims that the notion of argument is strictly semantic, related to thematic role assignment, and not related to the subject and complement positions. It is claimed that arguments are associated to adjunction positions, and that those positions are strictly structural relations, dealing with syntactic confi guration and case assignment. | Portuguese abstract | Proponho, neste artigo, que a noção de argumento é estritamente semântica, estando associada à atribuição de papéis temáticos, e não tendo relação direta com as noções de complementos de um verbo. Assumo que argumentos também são associados à posição de adjunção e, com isso, estou assumindo que complementos e adjuntos são relações estritamente estruturais, de confi guração sintática e de atribuição de casos.
