| English abstract | As a way of contributing to the understanding of women’s struggle for rights, especially in the evolution and setbacks experienced by female characters, this article aims to outline a panorama of French women in the 19th century. The work is based on the assumption of following the political changes that occurred in France, and how they marked the lives of female citizens. | Portuguese abstract | Como forma de contribuir para a compreensão da luta das mulheres por direitos, sobretudo na evolução e retrocessos vivenciados pelos personagens femininos, o presente artigo enseja esboçar um panorama das mulheres francesas do século XIX. O trabalho toma como pressuposto acompanhar as mudanças políticas ocorridas no cenário da França, e como elas marcaram a vida das cidadãs.
