Portuguese abstract This essay explores the music of singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Marku Ribas. Drawing from the theoretical framework proposed by Paul Gilroy, as well as the epistemological approaches of Négritude and Pan-Africanist thinkers, this essay situates the aesthetic and political content of Marku’s work within the rhizomorphic structure of the African Diaspora and a reaffirmation of black identity. Divided into three sections, the paper first discusses the musician’s trajectory before 1968 when he went into exile in France. The analysis then turns to an album produced by the group Batuki, to which Marku belonged during his time in Paris. Lastly, the essay closes with an examination of his first two solo albums, recorded in 1972 and 1975
