| Spanish abstract | El presente artículo tiene como principal objetivo discutir la relación entre el crecimiento de actividades turísticas y el desarrollo humano de poblaciones que son consideradas destinos turísticos. Para ello, se analizó información relacionada al Índice de Desarrollo Humano (IDH) y la dinámica turística en 44 municipios mexicanos reconocidos por la Secretaría de Turismo Federal como destinos prioritarios desde el año 2012. La hipótesis central de este estudio es que considerando los supuestos beneficios generados por el desarrollo turístico estos municipios deberían presentar un panorama de bienestar proporcional. Los resultados, sin embargo, apuntan a una realidad diferente, se generan múltiples interrogantes acerca del papel que desempeña el turismo como posible agente de desarrollo. Esta información puede ser útil para identificar aquellos factores clave que determinan la distribución de costos y beneficios en cada uno de estos destinos turísticos |
| English abstract | This article has the main objective of discussing the existence of a relationship between the growth of tourism activities and the human development within communities considered as tourist destinations. Thus, information related to the Human Development Index (HDI) and tourism dynamics was collected related to the destinations considered priority for the Mexican Tourism Secretariat since the year 2012. The central hypothesis of this study was that considering the benefits produced by tourism development in these communities, human development levels should present a similar positive panorama. Obtained results, however, point out toward a completely different reality generating a number of questions about the role of tourism as a real agent for development. The information in this article can be useful to further investigate those factors that determine the distribution of costs and benefits of tourism in these communities |
