| English abstract | This brief introductory and critical essay, though focused on the French romantic poet Gérard de Nerval, has as principle and basic structure the questioning of Romanticism. Our main concern was to discuss the revolution proposed by the first romantics, the famous ‘school’ of Jena, thus analyzing theirs most important manifest, as well as certain poietic concepts regarded as decisive in its ethical, aesthetic and political project, such as the ‘new mythology’, the ‘sublime’, the ‘genius’ and the ‘symbol’. As a final thought we regard as an example the French poet as a living icon of the same concepts, we develop a reading that seeks an opening in the reader’s interpretation of his most famous work, The Chimeras |
| Portuguese abstract | Este breve ensaio introdutório e crítico, embora dedicado ao poeta romântico Gérard de Nerval, tem por princípio e estrutura base o questionamento sobre o Romantismo. A nossa preocupação foi problematizar a revolução proposta pelo primeiro romantismo, a conhecida ‘escola’ de Jena, analisando, assim, os seus dois manifestos mais importantes, bem como certos conceitos poiéticos que nos pareciam determinantes no seu projecto ético, estético e político, ou seja, a ‘nova mitologia’, o ‘sublime’, o ‘gênio’ e o ‘símbolo’. De seguida, a jeito de consideração final, tomamos como exemplo o referido poeta francês como um verdadeiro emblema vivo dos mesmos conceitos, desenvolvemos uma leitura que procura promover no leitor uma abertura da interpretação da sua mais conhecida obra, As Quimeras |
