| Spanish abstract | En este trabajo defiendo la idea de que la competencia lingüística está constituida por lo que denomino 'actitudes de aceptación subdoxásticas. Estas son estados mentales cognoscitivos con un contenido conceptual, pero que son inconscientes en un sentido profundo. En primer lugar, doy una caracterización de este tipo de actitudes de aceptación y explico cómo podrían figurar en explicaciones de la comprensión y la producción lingüística. En segundo lugar, argumento que no sólo las creencias pueden constituir conocimiento, lo cual deja abierta la posibilidad de que las actitudes de aceptación subdoxásticas puedan también ser estados de conocimiento. Y en tercer lugar, muestro cómo el que considero el obstáculo principal para que estas actitudes sean conocimiento en el caso de la competencia lingüística proviene no de las actitudes mismas sino de una concepción particular del lenguaje |
| English abstract | In this paper I purport to defend the claim that linguistic competence is constituted by what I call 'subdoxastic acceptance attitudes'. These are mental cognitive states with a conceptual content, but which are unconscious in a deep way. My first task is to characterize these acceptance attitudes and show how they could figure in explanations of linguistic understanding and production. Secondly, I argue that not only beliefs can constitute knowledge, leaving open the possibility that subdoxastic acceptance attitudes themselves also be states of knowledge. And thirdly, I show how what I take to be the main obstacle for subdoxastic acceptance attitudes to be states of knowledge when constituting linguistic competence stems from a particular conception of language and not from the attitudes themselves |
