| English abstract | Due to its central role in the culture, the traditional Maya domestic space, the solar, has been addressed in countless studies that, while they haven"t made it their primary object of study, nevertheless discuss aspects of dwelling. With the goal of bringing together some of these contributions, this article makes a theoretical reflection on Maya dwelling through the precepts put forward by Heidegger, proving that the way of producing the solar can be considered, in the author"s terms, to be a construction. Seen through this perspective, the solar, even though its result is that of dwelling, is conceived as an indispensable element that gives meaning to the lives of its inhabitants. It is therefore much more than a tangible, material production, calling into question our modern, western ways of doing architecture in the 21st Century. |
| Spanish abstract | El espacio doméstico maya tradicional, el solar, por su importancia para el conocimiento de esta cultura, ha sido objeto de innumerables estudiosque, sin ser su objetivo principal, tocan aspectos del habitar. Con la finalidad de reunir algunas de esas aportaciones bajo este concepto, se expone en este artículo una reflexión teórica sobre el habitar maya utilizando los preceptos planteados por Martin Heidegger, para probar que, dada la manera de producción del solar, este puede ser concebido, bajo los términos del autor, como una onstrucción. Desde esta perspectiva, el solar, el cual es resultado del habitar mismo, se concibe como un elemento indispensable para dar sentido a la vida de sus moradores y, por tanto, es mucho más que solo una producción tangible y material, lo cual, en pleno siglo xxi, nos cuestiona sobre nuestros modos de habitar moderno y occidental y de hacer arquitectura. |
