Spanish abstract Los avances tecnol´ogicos derivados de la investigaci´on en temas de inteligencia artificial y aprendizaje autom´atico han motivado a algunos investigadores del ´area a pensar que en alg´un momento en el futuro no muy lejano, la singularidad tecnol´ogica ser´a una realidad. El t´ermino singularidad tecnol´ogica es utilizado para referirse al momento en la evoluci´on de la humanidad cuando los sistemas computacionales funcionen con algoritmos de inteligencia artificial general que les permitan realizar tareas tan complejas como las que podemos realizar los humanos. Es decir, ser´a el momento cuando las computadoras sean igual o m´as inteligentes que nosotros. De hacerse realidad, este evento tendr´ıa consecuencias importantes para la humanidad
English abstract Technological advances derived from research on artificial intelligence and machine learning have motivated some researchers in the area to think that at some point in the not too distant future, the technological singularity will be a reality. The term technological singularity is used to refer to the moment in the evolution of humanity when computer systems will work with general artificial intelligence algorithms that will allow them to perform tasks as complex as those that humans can perform. That is to say, it will be the moment when the computers will be equal or more intelligent than us. If it becomes a reality, this event would have important consequences for humanity
