| English abstract | The COVID-19 contingency period in the Mexican context has both highlighted and intensified many of the previously perceived problems dealing with economy, health, education, and housing. The case of Ixhuacán de los Reyes is addressed: a rural community which had the opportunity to carry out extension work more than five years ago, and in which there has been a close relationship between authorities and inhabitants. The aim is to propose strategies achieving an adequate sustainable habitat. This is developed by means of a qualitative methodology with an ethnographic approach along with the analysis of testimonies in which authorities and civil society members portray the most difficult moments experienced during this period. The results show different habitability conditions in the city and in rural environments which are related to uses and customs of the inhabitants of these regions. The conclusions demonstrate the urgency of a transformation in the current way of life to preserve the residential habitat and the life quality of the inhabitants. |
| Spanish abstract | La contingencia por el COVID-19 en el contexto mexicano ha evidenciado y recrudecido numerosos problemas de economía, salud, educación y vivienda. En este sentido, se estudia el caso de Ixhuacán de los Reyes, municipio rural donde se ha tenido la oportunidad de realizar trabajos de extensión desde hace más de 5 años, y en el que existe una relación estrecha entre autoridades y habitantes. El objetivo es plantear estrategias para alcanzar un hábitat adecuado sustentable, bajo una metodología cualitativa con enfoque etnográfico, mediante el análisis de testimonios de autoridades y sociedad civil en los momentos más álgidos de este periodo. Los resultados evidencian condiciones de habitabilidad diferentes en la ciudad y en entornos rurales, relacionadas con los usos y costumbres de los habitantes de estas regiones. Las conclusiones muestran la urgencia de una transformación de la forma de vida actual para preservar el hábitat residencial y la calidad de vida de los moradores. |
