| Resumen en español | El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la eficacia de la toxina botulínica tipo A como terapéutica sintomática en pacientes con disfunción de articulación temporomandibular y distonía oromandibular de cierre. Se incluyeron 20 sujetos entre 29 y 61 años de edad, (90%) mujeres, (10%) hombres. Se infiltraron los puntos gatillo, se midió el dolor con la escala visual análoga del dolor (EVA) pre-infiltración y semanalmente durante 3 meses. La media en la EVA del dolor pre-tratamiento fue 8.15 puntos y postratamiento de 3.7 puntos, con mejoría del dolor del 45.3% efectiva y sostenida. Se propone un nuevo algoritmo terapéutico, con la toxina botulínica tipo A |
| Resumen en inglés | This investigation evaluated the effectiveness of the botulinum toxin type A in patients with temporomandibular joint dysfunction and oromandibular closing dystonia. Twenty persons were included between 29 and 61 years old, (90%) women, (10%) men. The trigger points were infiltrated, the pre-infiltration pain was measured with the analogous visual scale of the pain (AVS) and also weekly during 3 months. The mean value in the AVS of the initial pain was 8.15 points and for post-infiltration, the mean value was 3.7 points, with improvement of the pain of 45.3%. A new treatment with the botulinum toxin type A is proposed |
