Resumen en inglés | A crude oil refinery normally consumes a large amount of energy, not only in the form of combustion of fossil fuels, but also in the associated Utilities Plant wich produces process steam at different pressure levels and electricity. Exergy loses in utilities plant, represent 40 % of the total refinery exergy loses, its extremely important to evaluate the performance of this plant and the assigned costs for steam production and electricity consumption; This paper presents the improvement proposals generated by exergoeconomics analysis application, to Utilities Plant of an existing 150,000 BDP crude oil refinery, the objective of this analysis its to determine actual energy situation of a typical power plant in wich steam and electricity are produeced: (2) to determine the critical process steps including the efectiveness of each plant component, the amount, origin, and location of the exergy losses produced, and the improvement potential of those components, and, (3): determination of production costs for steam and electricity.
