| Resumen en inglés | The main concern of this research is a study on Astronomy, developed by the Portuguese Jesuits in the middle of the eighteenth century from the works of Santo Antão teachers, particularly Eusébio da Veiga. The publishing of the Jesuit Eusébio da Veiga"s Planetario Lusitano in 1758 in Portugal was our starting point. Veiga was a teacher for the "Aula da Esfera" at the Colégio Santo Antão in Lisbon between the years of 1753 and 1759. For the development of this dissertation, we will approach the cultural and political context in Portugal during the period in which Veiga has produced his work. Other writings from the "Aula da Esfera" teachers and authors inserted within the European scientific context were also used, given that they allow us not only to further comprehend the Planetario Lusitano"s content but also to understand the backdrop of the Jesuits role in the Portuguese Astronomy field. |
| Resumen en portugués | A principal fonte desta dissertação é a obra Planetario Lusitano do padre jesuíta Eusébio da Veiga publicada em 1758 em Portugal. Veiga foi professor da "Aula da Esfera" no Colégio de Santo Antão em Lisboa entre 1753 e 1759. Nosso objetivo é analisar a Astronomia desenvolvida pelos jesuítas em Portugal em meados do século XVIII a partir das atividades dos professores de Santo Antão, principalmente Eusébio da Veiga. Para elaboração desta pesquisa abordamos o contexto no qual Veiga produziu sua obra e recorremos a escritos de outros intelectuais da "Aula da Esfera" e inseridos no âmbito científico europeu, na medida em que essas leituras nos permitiam compreender melhor o conteúdo do Planetario Lusitano e montar um cenário de atuação dos jesuítas no campo da Astronomia em Portugal. |
