| Resumen en inglés | When Descartes wrote the Dioptrics, there was no sufficient explanation about the transmission of the image from the retina to the brain. When considering the nerve function during the transmission of the image, Descartes went beyond everything that, at his time, was assured about it, by emphasizing the role of the optic nerve. Such aspect of the analysis of retinian image transmissions is added to another that becomes relevant during the establishment of the Cartesian theory of knowledge, that is what refers to the absence of need of the absolute resemblance between image and object. |
| Resumen en portugués | Quando Descartes escreve a Dióptrica, não há uma explicação satisfatória sobre a transmissão da imagem da retina ao cérebro. Ao considerar a função do nervo na transmissão da imagem, Descartes vai além de tudo o que é afirmado a esse respeito, em sua época, enfatizando o papel do nervo óptico. Esse aspecto da análise da transmissão das imagens retinianas está agregado a outro que se mostrará relevante na constituição da teoria cartesiana do conhecimento, qual seja, o que se refere à ausência de necessidade da suposição de semelhança absoluta entre imagem e objeto. |
