| Resumen en español | Ante la llegada de la tercera década del siglo XXI, la mayoría de las actividades humanas han sido impactadas por la actual era digital, conocida también como la cuarta revolución de la información y el conocimiento. Uno de los campos donde más se refleja este impacto es en las empresas manufactureras, donde los avances tecnológicos, la apertura de mercados y la globalización económica les induce a mejorar sus resultados y su competitividad; por el contraste, en las universidades, donde se forman los profesionales que deben afrontar los desafíos de esta era digital, los cambios han sido más lentos y presentan una serie de desafíos que es necesario atender. En este artículo se plantean algunos retos para la educación superior, así como una experiencia en una empresa pionera en las tendencias de manufactura, Jabil. | Resumen en inglés | With the arrival of the third decade of the 21st century, most human activities have been impacted by the current digital age, also known as the fourth information and knowledge revolution. One of the fields where this impact is most reflected is in manufacturing companies, where technological advances, the opening of markets and economic globalization induce them to improve their results and competitiveness; By contrast, in universities, where professionals who must face the challenges of this digital age are trained, changes have been slower and present a series of challenges that must be addressed. This article presents some challenges for higher education, as well as an experience in a pioneering company in manufacturing trends, Jabil.
