| Resumen en inglés | Second Life (SL) is a virtual space that simulates several aspects of the physical world in a 3D environment: social, cultural, professional and organizational. The Info Island, the largest island of libraries in SL, offers different information which allows the integration of users who frequent the islands. With regard to this context, the objective of this research was to identify and analyse the information resources available on the island. The data collection was done by the attendants of the libraries of Info Island. In order to accomplish this task, two instruments were used: observation and questionnaires. The survey results indicate that half of the professionals working in the libraries of the island have degrees in Information Science. The respondents stated that they offer information products and services, including: guidance about the virtual world and organizing and conducting lively discussions. Some of the services and products offered on the island are peculiar to the activities performed in physical libraries, especially in public ones, for example, meeting the author. The Info Island allows people from different parts of the world, with different interests, to explore the information resources, as it has the same service capacity of existing physical libraries |
| Resumen en portugués | O Second Life (SL) é um espaço virtual que simula o mundo físico em ambiente 3D em vários aspectos: social, cultural, profissional e organizacional. A Info Island , maior ilha de bibliotecas no SL, dispõe de diversas informações, as quais permitem a integração de usuários que frequentam as ilhas. . O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar e analisar os recursos informacionais disponíveis na ilha. A coleta de dados foi feita com os atendentes das bibliotecas da Info Island , para tanto, utilizou-se dois instrumentos: observação e questionários. Os resultados da pesquisa indicam que metade dos profissionais que atuam nas bibliotecas da ilha tem formação na área de Ciência da Informação. Os pesquisados ressaltaram que ofertam serviços e produtos de informação, entre eles estão orientações sobre o mundo virtual e a organização e condução de debates ao vivo. Alguns dos serviços e produtos ofertados na ilha são peculiares às atividades praticadas em bibliotecas físicas, especialmente nas públicas, como, por exemplo, encontro com o autor. A Info Island permite que pessoas de diversas partes do mundo, com interesses diferenciados, possam explorar os recursos informacionais, já que tem a mesma capacidade de atendimento existente em bibliotecas físicas |
