| Resumen en inglés | This paper highlights the deep bond between bees and humans constituted by the intermediation of honey, which is produced by bees and consumed by humans. From classics to recent works in anthropology and sociology, studies focused on honeybees and beekeeping are mentioned. Bees are fundamental beings for the maintenance of life, that is, “indispensable companions”, without whom we cannot live. It is precisely these beings fundamental to life that, in the Anthropocene, have been suffering population declines. The bee crisis arises in this context and, along with it, emerges a dystopian imaginary according to which human life, at the limit, would be unfeasible without its indispensable companions. It is in this way that anthropology is challenged by such emerging themes, and the present article seeks to contribute to the problems brought by the Anthropocene that threatens “indispensable companions” to human life |
| Resumen en portugués | O presente artigo destaca o profundo vínculo entre abelhas e humanos constituído pela intermediação do mel, o qual é produzido pelas abelhas e consumido pelos humanos. De clássicos a trabalhos recentes da antropologia e da sociologia, são mencionados estudos voltados às abelhas e à apicultura. As abelhas são seres fundamentais para a manutenção da vida, ou seja, “companheiras indispensáveis”, sem as quais não podemos viver. São justamente tais seres fundamentais à vida que, no Antropoceno, vêm sofrendo declínios populacionais. A crise das abelhas surge nesse contexto e, junto a ela, emerge um imaginário distópico conforme o qual a vida humana, no limite, se inviabilizaria sem suas companheiras indispensáveis. É desse modo que a antropologia é desafiada por tais temas emergentes, sendo que o presente artigo procura contribuir para os problemas trazidos pelo Antropoceno que ameaça “companheiros indispensáveis” à vida humana |
