| Resumen en inglés | Walter Benjamin, in 1923, wrote "The Task of the Translator", in which he describes the translator"s endeavour and argues that this task is more complex than the quest of equivalence between two texts. Meanwhile, Emmanuel Levinas, in his 1962 lecture "The Metaphor", claims that, when it comes to metaphorizing, one must look beyond similarity. From both visions, this essay intends to show how these two authors have had common ground on their conception of language, its evolution, and the mystery it holds. And proposes that the translation of literary works finds its foundation in the metaphor to account for the difference of each language as otherness, and how the translator must allow himself or herself to be destabilized by the foreign language, to give survival to the original, and, simultaneously aim for an ethic of the other in their task. |
| Resumen en español | Walter Benjamin, escribió en 1923 "La Tarea del traductor", donde describe el quehacer del traductor y sostiene que esta tarea es más compleja que la búsqueda de equivalencia entre dos textos. Por su parte, Emmanuel Levinas en su conferencia "La metáfora" de 1962, afirma que, al metaforizar, se debe buscar más allá de la semejanza. A partir de ambas visiones, este ensayo pretende mostrar cómo estos dos autores tiene puntos de encuentro en su concepción del lenguaje, su evolución y el misterio que éste guarda; y propone que la traducción de obras literarias encuentra su fundamento en la metáfora como un medio de dar cuenta de la diferencia de cada lenguaje como alteridad, y cómo, el traductor, debe dejarse violentar por la lenguaje extranjera, para darle supervivencia al original y a su vez, apuntar a una ética del otro en su tarea. |
