| Resumen en español | En este trabajo hago un seguimiento de la polémica que ha suscitado la obra científica de Goethe a lo largo del siglo XX, a través del análisis de la interpretación que de ella hacen diversos historiadores de la literatura, filósofos e historia dores de la ciencia; entre los que destaca la tesis del filósofo austriaco Rudolf Steiner. Tal revisión revela una incomprensión interpretativa esencial al intentar escindir al Goethe poeta del Goethe científico y olvidar que en el pensamiento del autor alemán tal separación no era concebible. Lejos de la marca de superstición, superchería y elucubración poética que ha estigmatizado el trabajo científico de Goethe, el artículo propone recuperar el ideal goetheano que hoy nuevas tendencias del pensamiento contemporáneo, como el de la Tercera Cultura, están debatiendo: la necesidad de integrar el trabajo del artista y el del investigador de la naturaleza, a través del diálogo entre las humanidades y la ciencia |
| Resumen en inglés | This paper analyzes the controversy created by Goethe's scientific writings all through the twentieth century, and discusses its varied interpretations by philosophers and historians of literature and science, among which stands out that of the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner. This overview reveals a common misconception: there supposed to be a divide between Goethe as a poet and Goethe as a science man, although such separation is impossible to conceive in Goethe's thought, and his scientific writings are not more than superstition and poetic fantasy. The critique of such a mistaken notion permits to reevaluate the goethean ideal of integration between the artist and the scientist, between Science and Humanities, an endeavor that recent trends of thought, like the Third Culture, are debating and validating today |
