| Resumen en inglés | The aim of this paper is to analyze the place of India in the strategy of U.S. power, especially for Eastern and Southern Asia. During the Cold War, especially at the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s, both countries ended up in different extremes in the bipolar conflict. This underwent changes with the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Particularly important is the way in which the North-Americans interpreted the Indian nuclear program, which from something unacceptable began to be seen as a strategic element in the North-American pursuit of a bigger rapprochement with India. This is something that is in the core of the strategic guidelines of the United States for maintaining their status of global hegemon in the context of the reorganization of world power |
| Resumen en portugués | O objetivo do presente artigo é analisar o lugar da Índia na estratégia de poder dos Estados Unidos, sobretudo para as regiões Leste e Sul da Ásia. Durante a Guerra Fria, principalmente em fins da década de 1960 e início da década de 1970, ambos os países ficaram em extremos opostos no conflito bipolar. Essa situação sofreria mudanças com a dissolução da União Soviética. Particularmente importante é a forma como os norte-americanos interpretaram o programa nuclear indiano que, de algo inaceitável, passou a ser visto como um elemento-chave na busca por uma maior aproximação com os indianos. Tal política se encontra no cerne das diretrizes estratégicas norte-americanas para manter o status de hegemon global diante do reordenamento de poder mundial no contexto da reorganização do poder mundial |
