| Resumen en español | El tumor desmoide es un tumor de tejidos blandos de origen musculoaponeurótico extremadamente infrecuente. Por su incapacidad para producir metástasis ha sido considerado benigno, sin embargo, su rápido y agresivo crecimiento local hacen que el tratamiento quirúrgico sea agresivo y completo. Caso clínico: Mujer pakistaní de 47 años, intervenida previamente en dos ocasiones de la misma región por diagnóstico de tumor de origen neural. Presentaba gran masa que invadía la pared costal baja derecha. Se llevó a cabo resección completa y reparación del defecto con material protésico. El diagnóstico fue tumor desmoide. Conclusiones: La resección completa es el tratamiento de elección. La radioterapia se reserva para casos irresecables, márgenes quirúrgicos afectados y dolor intratable |
| Resumen en inglés | Desmoid tumors are extremely rare soft tissue tumors originating in the musculoaponeurotic layer. Due to their inability to metastasize, they are considered as benign tumors. Their aggressive local growth has been described, necessitating aggressive and comprehensive surgical treatment. Clinical case: We present the case of a 47-year-old Pakistani woman with a history of two previous surgical procedures in the same region as the neural tumor. A mass that invaded the lower costal right chest wall was diagnosed. We performed a complete resection and repaired the defect with prosthetic material. Final diagnosis was desmoid tumor. Conclusions: Complete resection is the first line treatment. Radiotherapy is only used for incomplete resection, unresectable tumor and for severe pain |
