Resumen en inglés Due to the well known influence on health which heavy metals such as, nickel and vana - dium have, this research main objective is to evaluate the distribution of these metal concen - trations in vial sediments and its relation to flying ashes produced by the Fuel Oil burning at the thermoelectric facility in Maracaibo city. In order to accomplish this, a preliminary sampling in dry season on vial sediment through a radial sampling centered at the Ramón Laguna thermoe - lectric facility was done (n=112 samples). Then a final sampling in higher concentrations area (n=24 samples). The concentrations were measured by atomic adsorption spectrometry in a graphite furnace, while, flame atomization was used for ashes. The distribution of centrations and its appraised contribution from the flying ashes showed the influence of the thermoelectric facility on these metal emissions, obtaining, in this way, higher levels at the south-eastern zone of the facility. The nickel concentrations obtained were near the maximum permissive referential level according to EPA
