| Resumen en español | El estudio de la dimensión transnacional de Tánger (ciudad situada en el extremo norte de Marruecos) requiere considerar dos dinámicas que actúan en niveles diferentes, pero convergentes. La primera es una intervención "desde arriba", cuya iniciativa proviene de los gobernantes, con una visión neoliberal muy abierta a la privatización y al llamado del capital financiero internacional. La segunda se refiere a un movimiento "desde abajo", marcado por las transformaciones económicas en la zona y las nuevas oportunidades en términos de inversión, empleo e intercambio, así como la movilidad transnacional de los propios migrantes marroquíes, quienes a través de las fronteras crean su propio espacio transfronterizo de vida, trabajo, redes sociales y laborales. Se analizan ambas dinámicas partiendo del estatus internacional que Tánger mantuvo hasta 1956 y centrándose en la condición de ciudad transnacional que le caracteriza al inicio del siglo XXI |
| Resumen en inglés | The study of the transnational dimension of Tangier (a city located in the North end of Morocco) requires considering two dynamics which, whereas they converge, act at different levels. First, there is an intervention "from above", whose initiative comes from the rulers, with a neoliberal vision widely opened to privatization and to the call of international finance capital. The second one refers to a movement "from below", marked by the economic transformations in the area and the new opportunities in terms of investment, employment and exchange, as well as the transnational mobility of Moroccan emigrants themselves who, through the borders, create their own transboundary space of life, work, social and labor networks. This paper analyzes both dynamics, starting from the international status that Tangier maintained until 1956 and focusing on its condition as a transnational city at the beginning of the 21st century |
