| Resumen en inglés | This article presents an investigation on th e state censorship to the songs and musicals during the two last decades of Portuguese dictatorsh ip. The research was carried out through the review and analysis of material from the archives of PIDE/DGS (Polícia Internacional de Defesa do Estado/ Direcção-Geral de Segurança – Internat ional Police of State Defense / General Directorate of Security), as well as from the unpublished censorial processes collected in the archives of the Secretariado Nacional de Informação (SNI) (National Information Office), both based in the Torre do Tombo, in Lisbon. The analyses of these documents revealed which were the main banned topics, particularly with basis on the legal principles to which these songs were submitted, as well as on the justifications used by censors. The option for addressing songs in this text is also just ified by its vigorous social insertion through the media and the phonographic and publishing industries. This art form has certainly contributed to the cultural background of listeners, including its characteristic of being an educational agent. In this sense, in a period that illiteracy and low educational level predominated in Portugal, songs could be powerful instruments of cultural education and could have informative content, justifying their control by the State |
| Resumen en portugués | Este artigo apresenta uma investigação sobre a censura estatal às canções e aos espetáculos musicais durante as duas últimas décadas da ditadura portuguesa. Tal pesquisa foi realizada a partir da consulta e da análise do material do Arquivo da PIDE/DGS (Polícia Internacional de Defesa do Estado/Direcção-Geral de Segurança), e junto aos in éditos processos censórios obtidos no arquivo do Secretariado Nacional de Informação (SNI), ambos sediados na Torre do Tombo, em Lisboa. A análise desta documentação censória revelou os principais te mas interditos, em particular a partir dos preceitos legais a que estavam submetidas estas canções e das just ificativas empregadas pelos censores. Por sua vez, a opção por se abordar a canção neste texto também se ju stifica por sua forte inserção social através dos meios de comunicação e da indústria fonográfica e editorial. Esta manifestação artística certamente contribuiu na formação cultural dos ouvintes, inclusive em sua faceta de agente educativa. Nesse sentido, num período em que grassava o analfabetismo e a baixa escolaridade em Portugal, a canção podia ser um forte instrumento de formação cultural e de conteúdo informativo, daí seu controle pelo Estado |
