| Spanish abstract | El vino estuvo asociado a la civilización en el mundo helénico arcaico y clásico. Sin embargo, la ecuación vino=civilización siempre tuvo que lidiar con el problema de la embriaguez, fenómeno que generó prescripciones sobre la manera correcta de beber y vivir. El propósito del presente trabajo es hacer hincapié en la contribución del vino en el nacimiento de la filosofía moral. Muestro que las reflexiones relativas al consumo del vino realizadas por los siete sabios y los líricos arcaicos inspiraron las prescripciones del dominio de sí y la propensión hacia el término medio, características del kalos kagathos, esto es, del ser humano moralmente correcto de las éticas clásicas. Sucintamente, habrá que anexar a la conocida sentencia "In Vino Veritas" una segunda parte que afirma "In Vino... Éticas" |
| English abstract | Wine has been associated to civilization in the Hellenic archaic and classical world. However, the equation "wine=civilization" has always had to deal with the problem of drunkenness -phenomenon that generated prescription on the correct form of drinking and living. The purpose of this paper is to make emphasis on how wine contributed to the birth of moral philosophy. It is shown that reflections on wine consumption made by the seven sages and the archaic lyrics inspired the prescriptions of self domain and the tendency to the mean between excess and deficiency, characteristics of the kalos kagathos, that is of the morally correct human being of the classic ethics. Briefly, to the widely known quotation "In Vino Veritas" it should be added a second part that states "In Vino... Ethics" |
