| Spanish abstract | Se ha argumentado que las condiciones académicas y los hábitos mentales y emocionales de las comunidades antropológicas del mundo permitirían caracterizar diferencias que se expresan como «estilos nacionales». Sin desconocer su importancia, este artículo discute que la producción de los antropólogos colombianos está determinada por las realidades nacionales y los problemas socioculturales que enfrentan las poblaciones con las cuales trabajan. Ello condiciona los objetivos, los procedimientos y los resultados de su trabajo, resaltando cierta orientación epistemológica que comparten con otros científicos sociales del tercer mundo. Ilustrando a lo largo de medio siglo las interpretaciones de diferentes antropólogos sobre lo indígena, adicionalmente se evidencia cómo, más allá de buscar resolver propios problemas de la disciplina, su orientación se ha dirigido hacia la resolución de las condiciones asimétricas que someten a los indígenas junto con otros sectores sociales del país. Ello ha demandado, desde los inicios de la institucionalización de la antropología en Colombia, el posicionamiento de las prácticas y el discurso de los antropólogos en la sociedad nacional de la cual forman parte |
| English abstract | It has been argued that the academic conditions and the mental and emotional habits of the anthropological communities of the world would allow a characterization of differences that express “national styles”. Without ignoring their importance, the article discuses that the production of the Colombian anthropologists is determined by the national realities and the sociocultural problems that face the populations with which they work. This conditions their objectives, the procedures and the results of their labor, projecting a certain epistemological orientation that they share with other social scientists of the third world. Illustrating the interpretations of different anthropologists about the Indian people throughout the past half century, it becomes furthermore evident how, beyond seeking to solve characteristic problems of the discipline, their orientation has gone toward the resolution of the asymmetric conditions that natives suffer, along with other social sectors of the country.
