| Spanish abstract | El artículo aborda el tema de la gestión de las zonas metropolitanas en México, dada la importancia de estos conglomerados en el sistema urbano nacional. Se estudia el caso de la Bahía de Banderas en concreto, región turística cuya dinámica ejemplifica la complejidad de administrar el territorio que trasciende los límites municipales. Explicamos el fenómeno y la problemática de las metrópolis mexicanas, resaltando las deficiencias de la estructura institucional, normativa y gubernamental, que dificultan la innovación en la gestión de estas ciudades. Las conclusiones sugieren promover la asocia- ción y coordinación entre los tres niveles del gobierno (Federal, Estatal y Municipal) para acceder a una gobernabilidad metropolitana efectiva y coherente |
| English abstract | The article focus on the manage- ment of the metropolitan areas in Mexico, based on the importance of these conglomer- ates in the urban national system. We study the case of Bahía de Banderas, a well-known touristic region, as an example of the com- plexity of administrating the territory that ex- pands beyond the municipal boundaries. We explain the phenomenon and the problems of the Mexican metropolis, highlighting the shortcomings of institutional, regulatory and governmental structure that hinder innova- tion in the management of these cities. The findings suggest to encourage the association and coordination between the three levels of Government (Federal, State and Municipal) to achieve effective and coherent metropolitan governance |
