| English abstract | This study focuses on the play Julho, 10!, which received an award from the Workers' Novel and Playwriting National Contest, promoted by the Labor, Industry, and Commerce Ministry in 1942. The objective is twofold. First, the study examines the specificities of the Estado Novoperiod, discussing how the historical context is transmuted into the play. Second, the paper analyzes the playJulho, 10! both as part of the popular theater tradition initiated in the 19thcentury and as a form of intervention in specific legislation themes related to social protection in the years that preceded the granting of the Consolidation of Labor Laws |
| Portuguese abstract | O presente estudo se concentra na peça de teatro Julho, 10!, premiada no Concurso Nacional de Romance e Teatro para Operários, promovido pelo Ministério do Trabalho, Indústria e Comércio em 1942. Por um lado, busca analisar as especificidades do Estado Novo, problematizando como o contexto histórico se transmutou em texto teatral; por outro, discute a peça premiada, simultaneamente, como parte de uma tradição do teatro popular desde o século XIX e como intervenção nos temas específicos da legislação de proteção social nos anos que antecederam a outorga da Consolidação das Leis do Trabalho |
