| Spanish abstract | Este artículo trata sobre el significado de la phantasia en los diálogos de Platón, tomando en cuenta los contextos dialécticos en los que diferentes representaciones y opiniones son examinados y sometidos a refutación: las apariciones de los dioses tal como imaginaron los poetas no son una buen fundamento para la paideia de los ciudadanos (República), ni son conocimiento sólido las apariciones en la percepción (Teeteto); las imágenes verbales producidas por el sofista son inconsistentes (Sofista) y deberían, como las imágenes proyectadas en el viviente (Timeo), ser el objeto del análisis crítico y la interpretación. No obstante, sostenemos que, en los diálogos como un todo, la phantasia no es, a priori, falsa |
| English abstract | This paper deals with the meaning of phantasia in Plato's dialogues, taking into account the dialectical contexts in which different representations and opinions are examined and submitted to refutation: the gods' apparitions as pictured by the poets are not a good basis for the citizens' paideia (Republic), nor are the apparitions in perception solid knowledge (Theaetetus); the verbal images produced by the sophists are unsound (Sophist) and should, like the images projected on the liver (Timaeus), be the object of critical analysis and interpretation.
