| Spanish abstract | En el artículo "Derecho a la vida, derecho fundamental" se pretende mostrar a la luz de los importantes aportes que entrega las ciencias biológicas que la vida humana comienza desde el momento de la fecundación. Esta nueva realidad en virtud de su condición de ser humano tiene el derecho a que se le respete su vida y ninguna consideración de orden utilitarista o social puede justificar su eliminación. La razón de este respeto hunde sus raíces en que no hay bien superior que la vida, fundamento de todos los demás derechos y en que nadie puede atribuirse el derecho para determinar qué vida merece ser vivida o su valor. Dado que el desarrollo de un ser humano es un proceso continuo y gradual, la dimensión cuantitativa del ser ha de estar subordinada a la dimensión cualitativa u óntica que lleva grabada en virtud de su condición |
| English abstract | In this article, "The Right to Life, a Fundamental Right", the author attempts to demonstrate, in the light of important contributions made by the biological sciences, that human life begins from the moment of fecundation. This new reality, in virtue of its human condition, has the right to have its life respected, and no consideration of either a utilitarian or social character can justify its elimination. The reason for this respect is rooted in the fact that no good is superior to that of life, foundation of all other rights, and regarding which no one can claim the right to determine which life deserves to be lived, nor its value. Given that the development of the human being is a continuous and gradual process, the quantitative dimension of being has to be subordinated to the qualitative, orontic, dimension, which is inherent in virtue of its condition |
