| English abstract | The text reflects upon the meanings that are proportionate to certain land claim actions led by the Guarani community of South Mato Grosso. The hypothesis of the study tests the possibility of drafting the characterization of these actions as a social movement. The bibliography used is that of the Social Sciences that defines the principles and parameters of such movements to gauge in what degree they are applied to the MS Guarani case. Data from my Master’s dissertation is included in two indigenous land identification reports (PEREIRA, 2002a and 2002b) and two recent studies with a view to the elaboration of a doctoral thesis. Also used extensively are Brand’s studies (1993 and 1997), which are fundamental to the comprehension of the land losing process faced by several Guarani communities. Finally, two consequences are extracted from the approach of the text: 1) of a theoretical nature, allows the description of these actions as a social movement; 2) of a political nature, excludes any legitimacy for the allegation that is frequent in some political and regional sectors that such actions would be the direct result of external interference of political agents in some Guarani communities |
| Portuguese abstract | O texto reflete sobre os significados que comportam algumas ações de reivindicação de demarcação de terras protagonizadas por comunidades guarani de MS. A hipótese de trabalho testa a possibilidade de esboçar a caracterização dessas ações enquanto um movimento social. Para isto recorro à bibliografia das ciências sociais que define os princípios e parâmetros de tais movimentos, para aferir em que medida eles se aplicam ao caso guarani de MS. Reúno dados expostos em minha dissertação de mestrado (PEREIRA, 1999), em dois laudos de identificação de Terra Indígena (PEREIRA, 2002a e 2002b) e em pesquisas recentes com vistas à elaboração da tese de doutorado. Utilizo também, em grande medida, os estudos de Brand (1993 e 1997), fundamentais para a compreensão do processo de perda da terra por parte de inúmeras comunidades guarani. Ao final, tento extrair duas conseqüências que decorrem da abordagem adotada no texto: 1) a primeira, de natureza teórica, permite caracterizar estas ações enquanto movimento social; 2) a segunda, de natureza política, exclui qualquer legitimidade para a alegação, freqüente em certos setores políticos regionais, de que tais ações seriam resultado direto da interferência de agentes políticos externos às comunidades guarani |
