| Resumen en inglés | This paper refl ects upon the Xokleng distinction between the time in the jungle (“pre-pacifi cation” - when the State agencies made contact with the indigenous people and placed them in a limited region) and the time out of the jungle (contemporary). Through the discussion of the relationship between Myth and History our aim is to explain the sociocosmological consequences of such differentiation to the lived in world of these Amerindians. The study argues that the event known as leaving the jungle is of mythical importance for it acts on the sociotemporal organization of the group, and on its constitution as a collectivity. It also acts as a refl exive axis on which everyday practices are conceived |
| Resumen en portugués | Este artigo refl ete sobre a distinção xokleng entre o tempo do mato (“pré-pacifi cação”) e o tempo de fora do mato (contemporâneo), procurando explicitar as consequências sociocosmológicas de tal diferenciação no mundo vivido desses ameríndios através da discussão das relações entre mito e história. Argumenta que o evento da saída do mato possui pertinência mítica, atuando na organização sociotemporal do grupo, na sua constituição enquanto coletividade e como eixo refl exivo a partir do qual as práticas cotidianas são concebidas |
