| English abstract | Believing that low wages and professional devaluation is not the only factors that influence teacher malaise and evasion of teachers, the research that led to the text presented here aimed to identify factors involved in the abandonment of the profession. Considering the abandonment of teaching as a process that develops during the course of the teacher, the methodological approach that was more appropria- te was the life stories. The story of Estela, one of the sixteen stories contained in the larger study was collected through semi-structured interview. With the analysis identified the various factors of satisfaction and dissatisfaction with the teaching and how these factors combine and become entangled as to lead to the final rupture of the bonds established with the school and the teachers’ work |
| Portuguese abstract | Acreditando que os baixos salários e a desvalorização profissional não são os únicos fatores que influenciam o mal-estar docente e a evasão de professores, a pesquisa que deu origem ao texto aqui apresentado teve como objetivo identificar os fatores intervenientes no abandono da profissão. Conside- rando o abandono da docência como um processo que se desenvolve durante o percurso profissional do professor, a abordagem metodológica que se mostrou mais adequada foi a das histórias de vida. A história de Estela, uma entre as dezesseis histórias constantes da pesquisa maior, foi coletada por meio de entrevista semiestruturada. Com as análises foram identificados os diversos fatores de satisfação e insatisfação com o magistério e de que forma esses fatores se enredam e se combinam a ponto de levarem à ruptura definitiva dos vínculos estabelecidos com a escola e com o trabalho docente |
