| English abstract | The study of literature review deals on the treatment and diagnosis of Hansen disease, this article analyzes the interpretations of the disease in a historical perspective and its endemic configuration in Brazil, as well as, the current structure of the program intended to control Hansen disease, through the treatment of cases of leprosy reactions and changes in classification to be adopted in Brazil. These facts showed a scientific concern in the second half of the twentieth century with a still misunderstood and highly endemic disease in the country |
| Portuguese abstract | Através da revisão da literatura sobre o tratamento e o diagnóstico da hanseníase, esse artigo analisa as interpretações da doença na história e de sua configuração endêmica no Brasil. Repercute assim a estrutura atual do programa de controle da hanseníase, por meio das mudanças nas classificações diagnósticas e adoção de critérios no uso de medicamentos em reações hansênicas e da revisão dos conceitos da implantação da Poliquimioterapia da hanseníase no Sistema Único de Saúde – SUS. Tais fatos mostraram uma preocupação científica na segunda metade do século XX com uma doença ainda incompreendida e altamente endêmica no país |
