| English abstract | Throughout the history to the present day the abortion it started being criminalized, becoming a Public Health problem. The restrictive legislation is a reflection of socioeconomic structures and ideologies of each epoch and place, so that changes in the direction of the legalization of abortion depend on fostering and promoting the debate. Thus, the present study aimed to reflect on the challenges and the progress of the debate on the legalization of abortion in Brazil, emphasizing the historical-social context. It is observed that in the last decades of the twentieth century, the abortion issue was be moving into the public sphere, culminating on emergence of academic studies, magnification and humanization of the services of legal abortion and permission the therapeutic interruption the parturition in cases of anencephaly, being that current efforts are directed to strengthening the treatment of abortion from a public health perspective |
| Portuguese abstract | Ao longo da história até a atualidade o abortamento passou a ser criminalizado, tornando-se um problema de Saúde Pública. A legislação restritiva é um reflexo das estruturas socioeconômicas e ideológicas de cada época e lugar, de modo que mudanças no sentido da legalização do aborto dependem do fomento e promoção ao debate. Assim, o presente estudo teve como objetivo refletir sobre os desafios e os avanços da discussão sobre a legalização do aborto no Brasil, enfatizando o contexto histórico-social. Observa-se que nas últimas décadas do século XX, o tema do aborto foi se deslocando para a esfera pública, culminando no surgimento de estudos acadêmicos, ampliação e humanização dos serviços de aborto legal e permissão da interrupção terapêutica do parto em casos de anencefalia, sendo que os esforços atuais direcionam-se ao fortalecimento do tratamento do aborto na perspectiva da saúde pública |
