| English abstract | The role of the university teacher has been transformed throughout history. Currently, we are facing different teaching modalities to the face-to-face one. We have blended learning and virtuality. These new ways of teaching, in addition to requiring different learning environments, also require new teachers. It is in this situation that the role of the virtual teacher is inserted. This editorial makes a brief reflection on what it means to be a virtual teacher, what defines him/her, as well as the qualities that must be conducive to successful teaching for today's generations. These include the design of active learning methodologies and the critical, analytical and safe use of advanced digital technologies. In addition, some of the limitations that those who teach and their appropriation of the competencies required to be a professional who trains the next generations are mentioned. |
| Spanish abstract | El rol del docente universitario se ha transformado a lo largo de la historia. Actualmente nos encontramos frente a distintas modalidades de enseñanza a la presencial. Contamos con la semipresencialidad y la virtualidad. Estas nuevas formas de enseñar además de requerir entornos de aprendizaje diferenciados también necesitan nuevos profesores. Es en esta situación en la que se inserta el rol del docente virtual. En esta editorial se hace una corta reflexión sobre lo que significa ser un docente virtual, lo que le define, así como las cualidades que debe propiciar una enseñanza exitosa para las generaciones actuales.
