| Spanish abstract | Esta investigación se propone analizar el rol del programa estadounidense de Alianza para el Progreso en Chile y Venezuela, entre 1961 1963. Partiendo de una revisión documental de la política exterior chilena y venezolana con relación a los Estados Unidos, durante las administraciones de Jorge Alessandri y Rómulo Betancourt, respectivamente. La idea del Presidente John F. Kennedy de promover el plan de ayuda económica en América Latina para contrarrestar la influencia del comunismo, que dejó la revolución cubana en la región, tuvo un relevante comienzo, pero sus metas de desarrollo no se cumplieron. En suma, la comprensión de este proceso, des objetivos iniciales, contexto y alcances es fundamental, para evaluar la Alianza para el Progreso como el primer ―y hasta el momento― única iniciativa de acercamiento de la política exterior norteamericana hacia América Latina |
| English abstract | This research aims to analyze the role of the U.S. program of Alliance for Progress in Chile and Venezuela, between 1961 1963. Starting with a review of the Chilean and Venezuelan foreign policy toward the United States during the administrations of Jorge Alessandri and Romulo Betancourt, respectively. The idea of President John F. Kennedy's plan to promote economic aid to Latin America to counter the influence of communism, which left the Cuban revolution occurred in the region played an important start, but their development goals were not met. In sum, the understanding of this process, des initial objectives, scope and context is critical to assess the Alliance for Progress as the first-and so far only-initiative approach of U.S. foreign policy towards Latin America |
