| Spanish abstract | El propósito de la investigación busca aclarar un tema polémico, que desde la mitad del siglo XX se viene discutiendo en los medios científicos: la disminución de tamaño y posible hundimiento de Isla de Aves. La temática no solo analiza los distintos documentos con datos cartográficos de la isla de los siglos XVI al XX, sino además compara mapas históricos con actuales, utilizando la tecnología de Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG). El estudio concluye que hubo un cambio drástico de tamaño a finales del XVIII o inicios del XIX, manteniendo su forma y tamaño hasta el presente |
| English abstract | The purpose of the research seeks to clarify an issue that has been discussed in scientific circles since the mid-twentieth century: the decrease in size and possible subsidence of Aves Island. The work not only analyzes the various documents with cartographic data of the island, from the XVI to XX century, but also compares historical maps with current ones, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology. The research concludes that there was a drastic change in size in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century, maintaining its shape and size to the present |
