| Spanish abstract | En la presente reseña abordo el libro de Christiane Berth desde cuatro aspectos: su andamiaje teórico-metodológico, una crítica a la visión teleológica de la producción cafetalera, el apoyo de los finqueros alemanes al gobierno de Jorge Ubico (1931-1944) y las vicisitudes que la colonia alemana enfrentó en Guatemala después del estallido de la segunda guerra mundial. | English abstract | In this review I check Christiane Berth’s book from four aspects: its theoretical- methodological scaffolding, a critique of the teleological vision of coffee production, the support of German farmers to the government of Jorge Ubico (1931-1944) and the vicissitudes that the German colony faced in Guatemala after the outbreak of the Second World War. The commented work enriches the historiography about Central American region and opens gaps to continue studying it. The purpose of this review has been precisely to show them |
