| Spanish abstract | Los contextos fronterizos están permeados por nociones duales de movilidad e inmovilidad; la permisibilidad y selectividad del tránsito migratorio más allá del territorio nacional son elementos intrínsecos en la esfera cotidiana de quienes viven al "sur" de la frontera. Utilizando una metodología cualitativa se buscó conocer la manera en que jóvenes de dos ciudades con infraestructuras de control fronterizo disímiles (Tijuana, México y Tecún Umán, Guatemala) viven su presente e imaginan su futuro a partir del contacto constante con una barrera cargada de elementos simbólicos de diferencia y restricción. A través de sus narrativas es posible analizar cómo se han embarcado en una labor reivindicatoria de sus ciudades y de su condición juvenil al buscar empoderarse de su futuro y al utilizar lo mejor de los "dos mundos", siempre volviendo a suelo nacional |
| English abstract | Dual notions of mobility and immobility permeate the border contexts. The permissiveness and selectivity of migratory transit beyond the national territory are intrinsic elements in the everyday sphere of those living "south" of the border. Using a qualitative methodology, the research aimed to identify the way in which young people from two towns with different border control infrastructures (Tijuana, Mexico, and Tecun Uman, Guatemala) experience their present and imagine their future, based on the ongoing contact with a barrier charged with symbols of difference and restriction. Through their narratives, it is possible to analyze how they embarked on a struggle for urban and youth demands in search of self-empowerment and making use of the best of "both worlds", always with the intention to return to their homeland |
