| English abstract | This article presents an analysis of the story of the Rich Young Man according Mt 19,16-22 as a vocation, which was not successful. The motive for the failure was not because of lack of observance of some commandment not related in the text, but the lack of the evangelical spirit, which is the living of love in fullness, the synthesis of the Law. His properties occupied the heart of the rich young man, as the greatest good. And where one’s treasure is, there also is one’s heart. This being so, there was no space for God as supreme good, and he went away saddened. The article stresses the demands of discipleship in parallel with the demand of salvation. To journey towards perfection is to be a disciple. In order do follow Jesus there are situations, which require a difficult renunciation, so as to accept the call of God to obtain eternal life. The conclusion is that all Christians are called to live the Gospel in its totality, using however different means according to the disposition of the heart |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo apresenta uma análise da história do jovem rico, conforme Mt 19,16-22, como uma vocação que não obteve sucesso. O motivo do fracasso não foi a falta de observância de algum mandamento não relacionado no texto, mas a falta de espírito evangélico, que é a vivência do amor pleno, síntese da lei. As propriedades ocuparam o coração do jovem rico, como um bem maior, e, onde está o tesouro, ali também está o coração. Assim, não ouve espaço para Deus sumo bem e ele se afastou entristecido. O artigo destaca as exigências do discipulado, em paralelo com a exigência da salvação. Caminhar para a perfeição é ser discípulo. Para o seguimento de Jesus, há situações que pedem renúncias difíceis para aceitar o chamado de Deus para obter a vida eterna. Conclui-se que todos os cristãos são chamados a viver o Evangelho na totalidade, porém mediante meios diferentes, segundo as disposições do coração |
