| English abstract | Discussions on paradigmatic approaches in the field of Manage - ment may be fruitful to the extent that they lead researchers to reflect on assumptions, values and practices shared in the scien - tific community. However, in the extreme, it becomes a dispute that prevents the search for other approaches to deal with the complexity of social phenomena. This essay sought to encourage reflections on the consequences of the debate, which is polarized between Positivism and Interpretivism, to the field of Adminis - tration. Thus, we intentionally selected texts that enable a better understanding of this clash between paradigms, using key con - cepts from authors such as Kuhn (2001), Bourdieu (1983), Trevisan (2006), Demo (2011.), Morin (1998), among others. In response to the overall goal of this work, we consider that this dispute questions the relevance of the knowledge produced in Adminis - tration, restricts the epistemological choices and prevents us from developing a paradoxical thinking and apprehending conflicting views. In following this course, Administration has little to gain. On the other hand, if we move beyond conformations, it is quite possible that discussions become more profitable and plural, and thus Administration may be the big winner in this dispute |
| Portuguese abstract | A discussão sobre abordagens paradigmáticas no campo da Administração pode ser profícua na medida em que provoca os pesquisadores a refletirem sobre premissas, práticas e valores compartilhados numa comunidade científica. Entretanto, no ex - tremo, torna-se uma disputa que impede a busca de outras abor - dagens para lidar com a complexidade dos fenômenos sociais. Este ensaio buscou provocar reflexões sobre as consequências do debate, polarizado entre positivismos e interpretativismos, para o campo da Administração. Para tanto, foram selecionados intencio - nalmente textos que possibilitassem melhor entendimento desse embate entre paradigmas, utilizando conceitos-chave de autores como Kuhn (2001), Bourdieu (1983), Trevisan (2006), Demo (2011), Morin (1998), entre outros. Em resposta ao objetivo geral deste trabalho, considera-se que essa disputa questiona a relevância do conhecimento produzido em Administração, restringe as opções epistemológicas e impede-nos de desenvolver um pensamento paradoxal e perceber visões conflitantes. Por esse caminho, a Administração pouco tem a ganhar. Por outro lado, se conse - guirmos avançar para além das conformações, é bem possível que as discussões tornem-se mais profícuas e plurais, e, assim, a Administração possa ser a grande vencedora dessa disputa |
