| Spanish abstract | La incontinencia urinaria es un problema de salud de alta prevalencia que puede alterar significativamente la calidad de vida. A pesar de ello, los pacientes con incontinencia de orina suelen aceptar sus síntomas durante años antes de consultar con su médico. Un porcentaje desproporcionadamente alto de aquellos que consultan es remitido al especialista. Aunque la fisiopatología de la incontinencia urinaria sea compleja, al poseer conocimientos básicos sobre la anatomía y fisiología del tracto urinario inferior, ésta puede ser eficazmente tratada en el marco de la asistencia primaria. En esta revisión se describen los recientes hallazgos sobre la neurofisiología del tracto urinario inferior (TUI), con especial atención en el papel del sistema nervioso central y del sistema nervioso periférico autónomo y somático durante el llenado y vaciamiento vesical |
| English abstract | The urinary incontinence is a problem of health of high prevalence that can alter the quality of life significantly. In spite of it, the patients with urin incontinence usually accept their symptoms during years before consulting with their doctor. An very out of proportion high percentage of that they consult is sent to the specialist. Although the pathophysiology of the urinary incontinence is complex, when having basic knowledge on the anatomy and physiology of the lower urinary tract, this one can effectively be dealed with the primary attendance within the framework.
