| Spanish abstract | En vísperas del siglo XXI, descubrimos que es la democracia liberal y no las revoluciones socialistas el gran personaje del siglo que se cierra. Este artículo examina preguntas como las siguientes para el caso de Brasil: ¿en qué medida las masas de las nuevas democracias presentan orientaciones, actitudes y patrones de comportamiento compatibles con el funcionamiento del nuevo sistema político? ¿Hasta dónde las exigencias mínimas de participación requeridas por la democracia se perciben como medios adecuados a través de los cuales los diferentes segmentos pueden presentar sus demandas al sistema político? ¿Las concepciones en torno a la democracia de los distintos segmentos del público abrigan la alternativa de cambios en el sistema? |
| English abstract | At he turn of the new millennium, scholars have found that the great protagonist of the XX century was the liberal democracy, not the Socialist revolutions. In the particular case of Brazil, this essays provides some answers to the following questions: Are the masses of the new democracies presenting biases, attitudes and behavior patterns consistent with the new political system? Up to what point the minimal participation that democracy requires is perceived as an adequate means through which the different strata can present their demands to the political system? Is it possible to change this system through the concepts of democracy that the different social segments hold? |
